Blackhead buster!! any1 know of a REALLY good one?

Posted under blackhead treatment by Dan Johnson on Wednesday 31 December 2008

I don't get blackheads anywhere except on my nose, pore strips dont help, any blackhead treatment out there that actually do work??

First of all, consider yourself lucky they're only on your nose:) If you wet your nose and apply the pore strip and they aren't coming off, you may need to do a little extra work.

What I usually do is steam my face over hot water for about five minutes. After you're done, pat your face dry and apply a clay masque like Queen Helen Mint Julep Masque (about $2.99 at any store) and wait until it dries, usually 10-15 minutes. Once it's dry, rinse it off with warm water and put the pore strip on your nose. They should come off. What happened was the steaming water opened your pores and the clay masque, as it dried, did a suction action on your skin, drawing the blackheads to the surface.

If all else fails, buy a blackhead extractor. However, this is (in most cases) a metal object, so you want to use it when your skin is soft and steamed, like while you're in the shower.

Whatever you do, don't force anything. You don't want permanent damage. Don't use your fingernails right against your skin (you can wrap your fingers in tissue or around a washcloth) and always, always try to do extractions after steaming your face or after a hot shower.

I mentioned it was alot of work, didn't I? :)

    Vitamins to help fight acne?

Posted under acne vitamins by Dan Johnson on Wednesday 31 December 2008

    Hi,

Does anybody know of any vitamins you can buy over the counter to help fight acne?

The main vitamins that help to combat acne are Vitamin A, the B Vitamins, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Chromium and Zinc. Each of these vitamins helps to fight acne in a different way and when used in conjunction they can help greatly to reduce the affects of acne and even prevent its breakout altogether. If you decide to use these vitamins, most likely through form of supplements since trying to consume the right amounts through dieting can be difficult, it is extremely important to follow the dosage instructions and to never take too much of any vitamin. Taking too much of many vitamins can be toxic and can lead to illness and worse problems, so always be careful and patient.

I'm taking vitamin A for acne, is it better to take the vitamins all at once or spread it throughout the day.

Posted under vitamins for acne by Dan Johnson on Wednesday 31 December 2008

I'm taking 100,000 iu a day, I know about the risks and will stop in a month. Also what is the best time in the day to take it like 2 pm or it doesn't make a difference.
    I take 13 pills, each 8,000 iu total 104,000

    THAT'S TOO MUCH!!!
According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitamin_A, you can poison your liver if you take more than 15,000 IU a day.

Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin, it is not water soluble. The excess does not get "flushed away", it gets stored in your fat cells, and can build up to toxic levels over time.

You say you "know the risks" but really, is risking your liver worth it??

Any remedies for pregnancy induced acne?

Posted under acne pregnancy by Dan Johnson on Wednesday 31 December 2008

I normally have clear skin with an occassional breakout, but I am 20 weeks pregnant and they are bad. I have to cake on the makeup to hide all the blemishes. I have used noxema, oil of olay, and a blackhead remover. Not only are the on my face but they are on my back and on my chest. I shower regularly and keep my skin exposed when I can. Its really embarrasing when I go to the chiro or to the Dr. Is there a remedy or do I have to suffer it till the end? Does anyone know if Proactive really works?

i have had problems with acne since I was like 11 .. and pregnancy only flared it up and made my face unbearable.

I have been using proactiv for a few months now and am actually pimple/zit and acne free (i have the more serious kind) not the kind that druge store face wash would clear up …

but using a salycic acid or benzoyl peroxide body wash should help if not clear up your body acne. You can try putting acne cream on it too! Showering daily helps. I know I can't daily .. i try to every other day .. cause i have an 11 month old and am too tired to even shower by the end of the day …

but after your done being pregnant .. it will clear up most likely. My face was the clearest it had been since before I 'became a woman' over 12 years ago .. right after birth. I was glowing and had clear skin! Hopefully it clears up for you@

does taking zinc supplements really help with acne?

Posted under zinc acne by Dan Johnson on Wednesday 31 December 2008

i read somewhere that they help and i was just wondering if that is true or not…
i also heard that they help with oily skin and reduce the oil…

Nutritional supplements that may be helpful: Several studies indicate that zinc supplements reduce the severity of acne.1 In one study, zinc was found to be as effective as oral antibiotic therapy.2 Many people with acne take 30 mg of zinc two or three times per day for a few months, then 30 mg per day thereafter. It often takes twelve weeks before any improvement is seen

My acne treatment is ending. Should I change to Proactiv or stick to my original products?

Posted under back acne treatment by Dan Johnson on Wednesday 31 December 2008

I have been using this 4 step treatment for my acne.

Now that I am almost done with it, should i switch to Proactiv?
Or should I try something new?

Or is it better if i stick to my old treatment and just replenish the products?

The improvement can be seen, though I still have some scars.

    Thanks!

Plus, any good HOME REMEDY to clear the red patches on my face?

If it is really working, stick to the treatment you are using. If it is too expensive, check the active ingredient (many acne products have benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, sometimes glycolic acid as the main ingredient), then switch to a cheaper version that has the same active ingredient. That way your skin won't break out as if it were adjusting to new chemicals.

Proactiv I would not recommend, which has the active ingredient of benzoyl peroxide. It dried my skin and makes it feel very rough. Sometimes the products even burned! The informercials claim that it is soo gentle, but it dried my skin so badly that it looked like I had chemical burns. However, my skin is sensitive and the product works for some people. I use salicylic acid in Nature's Cure (very cheap product!). It is much gentler on my skin and I have had better results with this brand over proactiv.
If you have acne scars that you are trying to get rid of, I would recommend Mederma. It expensive, but if you use it properly it will help fade acne scars and last several months. Good luck!

Do papules after a pimple go away on their own without treatment?

Posted under pimple treatment by Dan Johnson on Wednesday 31 December 2008

I have a papule (non infected bump under my skin with no puss) after a pimple scabbed and peeled off. My skin is quite smooth on top although their is a very small raised bump. It doesnt hurt at all and is not really visible.

My question is will it go away if untouched? WIll the contents be reabsorbed by the body or will it have to turn into a pustule before it goes?

Most likely go away, its just a small inflammation and as long as your body does overreact a lil or have some scarring it should be fine
